TOOTH COLORED FILLINGS
Composite Resin Fillings
Amalgam fillings are effective in restoring the form and function of patients’ smiles, but their unattractive silver or metallic appearance makes them a less than ideal solution. That’s why we offer people, just like you from Brandon, Pearl, Madison, Flowood, Ridgeland, and Vicksburg, a more cosmetic alternative with tooth-colored composite resin fillings.
Composite resin is a combination of glass and plastic shaded to match natural tooth color. While many dental practitioners were hesitant to use this material because it is not as durable as amalgam, the closer bond between the tooth and composite resin material actually makes tooth colored fillings as long lasting as other restoration options.
Sometimes referred to as direct fillings, composite resin is shaped in place over the prepared tooth, and patients are able to retain more dental structure because the filling material is able to fill in smaller gaps in dental structure. A curing light is used to harden the filling once it’s in place, and patients leave with fully renewed smiles in just one day. If you’re experiencing a toothache, broken or chipped teeth, or other signs of decay that may require repair with fillings, contact our team to schedule an appointment right away. We prefer helping patients in the early stages of decay or damage in order to preserve the maximum amount of natural tooth structure.
Here are the benefits of Composite Resin Fillings:
- Overall more natural appearance
- Less chance of sensitivity associated with changes in temperature that are common with amalgam fillings
- Ability to preserve a greater amount of dental tooth structure due to the direct application of filling material
- Less likely for the filling to break away from the tooth or for bacteria or plaque buildup between the filling and tooth to lead to future decay
